Valparaíso will hold the third Universal Forum of Cultures in 2010.
The general assembly of the Universal Forum of Cultures Foundation board of trustees unanimously approved the designation of the city of Valparaíso as the venue for the third edition of the Universal Forum of Cultures. This coming edition will take place from 22 October 2010 to 7 January 2011.
The project presented by Valparaíso showed the city's clear commitment to sustainable development, the environment, the fight against poverty and to peace. Forum hosting is presented as an experience that will change the image of Valparaíso and will revitalize its commitment as part of UNESCO's World Heritage. The city's project is based on its belief in the power of creativity, dialogue and fair and equitable participation.
Valparaíso will use its public space -streets, viewpoints, stairs, squares, theatres…- as a stage for great part of the activities in the III Universal Forum of Cultures. New strategies are suggested for the promotion of public spaces and their use as centres for culture and cohabitation.
The three core themes of the Forum - the promotion of cultural diversity, the promotion of sustainable development in a globalized world and the development of the conditions necessary for peace and cohabitation both on a local and on a global level- will take shape into three thematic lines:
